Starmer, Kristersson Hold Talks on Defense, Ukraine

(MENAFN) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson held discussions on Tuesday covering security in the High North, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and bilateral defense cooperation.

During the phone call, Starmer expressed gratitude for Sweden’s support for Ukraine and emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to strengthen resilience, energy security, and air defense, according to reports.

The two leaders stressed the importance of providing Ukraine with long-term security guarantees and sustained international backing to help achieve a just and lasting resolution to the conflict.

They also reflected on the robustness of the broader defense partnership between the UK and Sweden, reports said.

"They agreed on the need to step up security in the High North and across Europe to deter threats posed by adversaries such as Russia," the statement added.
