Nigeria’s President Tinubu Vows Closer Security, Trade Ties with Turkey


(MENAFN) During his first official visit to Türkiye on Tuesday, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to enhance cooperation with Türkiye in areas of security and trade, highlighting shared goals of promoting stability and economic growth.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Tinubu said, “You can bet on me that I will be there with you for democracy, freedom and prosperity.”

He noted that discussions with Erdogan covered a range of mutual interests, including expanding trade relations, increasing business opportunities, and building an inclusive economy that empowers people willing to learn and work.

Tinubu emphasized the need for economic reforms that both engage vulnerable populations and support peace and stability, particularly across Africa.

The Nigerian leader also praised Erdogan’s dedication to democracy, freedom, and development, highlighting Türkiye’s assistance to vulnerable communities worldwide. He added that Türkiye’s initiatives in Somalia are “well noted.”
