Kremlin confirms upcoming Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Abu Dhabi

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has confirmed that another round of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, facilitated by the United States, is expected to take place next week in Abu Dhabi, according to official statements made Monday.

A Kremlin spokesperson said the precise timing has not yet been settled, although reports have suggested the discussions could restart on Feb. 1. “Planned for next week. I cannot name the exact date right now,” he said during a briefing in Moscow.

Commenting on expectations for the talks, the spokesperson urged caution, noting that it is too early to anticipate major breakthroughs from the initial trilateral engagement due to the complexity of the matters under discussion.

“The territorial issue, which is part of the 'Anchorage Formula,' naturally has fundamental significance for the Russian side. Our negotiators continue to defend our interests,” he said.

Russia and Ukraine previously held two days of consultations in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 23 and 24 with US involvement. Those discussions were described by the US administration as “constructive,” according to reports.
