Israel on High Alert Over Possible US Strike on Iran

(MENAFN) Israel on Monday persisted in enforcing its highest level of readiness while bracing for a potential American military operation against Iran, driven by concerns that Tehran could launch counterattacks, according to reports from Israeli outlets.

A state-owned broadcaster reported that Israel has been on “maximum alert” for over a week, prompted by the prospect of US armed intervention targeting Iran.

“Tehran could respond to any American attack by attempting to target Israel,” Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo said in remarks aired by a news agency.

“US forces are deployed in the (Arabian) Gulf region, without a complete clarity on the next steps,” he added.

Strains between Washington and Tehran have intensified sharply since widespread anti-government demonstrations broke out across Iran last month.

Meanwhile, US media reported that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, along with three escorting destroyers, reached the Indian Ocean on Friday while heading toward the Gulf of Oman in preparation for a possible US assault on Iran.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump validated those accounts, stating that an American “armada” was moving toward the Middle East and that US authorities were carefully observing developments inside Iran.

The US administration has reiterated that every option, including military measures, remains available in addressing Tehran, as Washington and Israel pursue efforts to alter Iran’s governing structure.
