(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said that American forces employed a previously undisclosed weapon to disable Venezuela’s air defense systems during a raid that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

Trump stated that the operation, which took place on January 3, involved over 150 planes and helicopters and was completed without any American casualties or the loss of aircraft. He referred to the weapon as “The Discombobulator,” explaining that it rendered enemy equipment inoperative, preventing the launch of Russian and Chinese rockets. “They pressed buttons and nothing worked,” Trump said.

Seven US service members were reportedly injured in the raid, and one helicopter was damaged but remained operational. Experts have speculated that the U.S. may have used jamming technology to disable radar systems or force them to reveal their positions.

Following the operation, Maduro and his wife pleaded not guilty to drug-trafficking and weapons charges when presented before a US judge.
