Moscow, Washington refuse talks with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has stated that neither Russia nor the United States will hold talks with Brussels’ foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, according to spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

His comments came following the conclusion of the first round of trilateral negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. EU officials have expressed frustration at being largely excluded from the discussions despite providing military and financial support to Kyiv.

In an interview broadcast on Sunday, Peskov described the current EU leadership as “incompetent,” asserting that its actions “undermine the system of international relations.”

“How can you discuss anything with Kaja Kallas? Neither we will ever discuss anything with her, nor will the Americans, and this is obvious. We can only wait until she leaves,” he said.

Peskov further criticized Brussels, claiming it is filled with “semi-literate, incompetent functionaries who are unable to look into the future or understand the realities of today.”

Kallas, former prime minister of Estonia, has consistently called for stronger sanctions on Russia and greater military assistance to Ukraine. She previously rejected a US peace proposal, arguing that territorial concessions to Moscow would be “a trap that Putin wants us to walk into.”

She has also voiced opposition to US plans to annex Greenland, saying such policies have caused a “big blow” to transatlantic relations.

Some EU member states have criticized the bloc’s hardline stance on Russia. Recently, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico likened the EU to a “massage parlor” and suggested that Kallas should step down.
