Israeli Forces Unleash Barrage of Strikes on Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israeli forces executed multiple bombing campaigns across Lebanon on Sunday night, targeting what military officials characterized as Hezbollah militant infrastructure in what they claim were defensive operations.

The Israeli military issued a statement declaring the strikes targeted "several areas," framing the assault as retaliation for what it labeled Hezbollah's "repeated violations of the ceasefire understandings," though specifics were not disclosed.

Sunday's nighttime bombardment represents the second offensive wave within hours. Earlier strikes killed two Hezbollah operatives, with five additional individuals wounded in separate Israeli attacks, Lebanon's state-run news agency confirmed.

Following the initial assault, the Israeli military released a statement identifying Muhammad al-Husseini, Hezbollah's head of artillery, as killed in the village of Arzoun in southern Lebanon. Israeli authorities accused al-Husseini of orchestrating multiple attacks against Israeli forces and attempting to "restore Hezbollah's artillery capabilities in southern Lebanon."

Israel has conducted repeated strikes throughout Lebanese territory, asserting operations aim to neutralize Hezbollah "threats," even as a United States and France-brokered ceasefire remains technically active since Nov. 27, 2024. The Lebanese government, alongside numerous Arab nations, has condemned what they characterize as Israel's persistent violations of the truce.
