Winter Storm Affects Regions Across Canada, US

(MENAFN) A severe winter system has unleashed blizzard-like conditions, widespread blackouts, bitter cold, and significant snow accumulation across portions of Canada and the United States.

The US National Weather Service cautioned on Monday about perilous weather in states such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Heavy snow, forceful winds, and dangerously frigid temperatures are anticipated to persist until Thursday.

In Michigan, state police reported that over 100 vehicles—including more than 30 large semitrailer trucks—were involved in collisions or slid off icy roads on Monday due to relentless snowfall and slick surfaces.

Officials confirmed multiple injuries but no deaths. Several highways remain closed while crews continue clearing blocked routes.

The storm’s influence is stretching further south, with meteorologists predicting possible heavy snowfalls and freezing conditions in states like Texas and Georgia.

In Canada, Nova Scotia—located on the Atlantic coast—experienced the most severe impact.

On Monday, electricity provider Nova Scotia Power initiated its emergency operations center.

“The heavy snowfall has brought down trees and branches onto powerlines and also resulted in heavy build up on power equipment, causing outages,” the company stated.

At the storm’s height on Monday, more than 130,000 households were left without electricity, though the majority regained power by the evening.
