Putin offers using frozen assets for Russia’s ‘Board of Peace’ membership
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Moscow could contribute $1 billion from frozen assets as a fee for permanent membership in the “Board of Peace,” a new international body proposed by US President Donald Trump.
Speaking at a Russian Security Council meeting in Moscow, Putin explained that he had directed the Russian Foreign Ministry to study the proposal and coordinate Moscow’s position with international partners. "We could send 1 billion US dollars from Russian assets frozen during the previous US administration to the Board of Peace," he said.
The White House last week announced the formation of the Board of Peace, alongside a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which is one of four bodies intended to manage the transitional phase in the enclave. According to statements from invited world leaders, membership in the board is free for the first three years, after which permanent membership requires a $1 billion contribution.
The creation of the board coincided with the launch of phase two of a ceasefire in Gaza, which halted Israel’s war in the territory—a conflict that has killed over 71,000 people and injured more than 171,000 since October 2023.
