Germany Says No to Trump's Proposed Peace Board
(MENAFN) Germany has declined to participate in U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed Board of Peace under its existing framework, Der Spiegel magazine reported Wednesday.
An internal government document from the Federal Foreign Office reveals that while Berlin welcomes discussions on peace efforts, membership in Trump's so-called Board of Peace as currently structured remains impossible, the Der Spiegel report indicates.
The classified document emphasized Germany's dedication to reinforcing the international system anchored by the UN Charter, characterizing the American proposal as a "counter-draft" to the United Nations, according to the publication.
The initiative reportedly concentrates sweeping decision-making authority in Trump's hands as "chairman." In line with this stance, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will skip Thursday's planned signing ceremony in Davos, Der Spiegel stated.
Trump initially unveiled the Board of Peace as a component of a U.S.-authored 20-point peace blueprint designed to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and facilitate Gaza Strip reconstruction efforts.
