Syrian Authorities Recapture ISIS Detainees

(MENAFN) Syria’s Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that 81 of the 120 ISIS (Daesh) prisoners freed by the SDF from al-Shaddadi prison in northeastern Hasakah province have been recaptured.

In earlier remarks, the ministry accused the YPG/SDF group of being responsible for the release of ISIS members.

The ministry explained that "following the escape of 120 ISIS terrorists from the prison in al-Shaddadi, the Syrian Army and special operations units affiliated with the Interior Ministry entered the city of al-Shaddadi."

It added: "Army and Interior Ministry forces conducted a comprehensive search and sweep operation in and around the city of al-Shaddadi. During the operation, 81 ISIS terrorists were apprehended. The search for the remaining ISIS members continues."

On Sunday evening, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared a ceasefire and announced an agreement for the complete integration of the SDF into state institutions.

According to the deal, the SDF will pull back its military units east of the Euphrates River and transfer administrative and security authority over Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces to the Syrian government.

The accord also stipulates that SDF military and security personnel will be absorbed into the Syrian defense and interior ministries after individual vetting, while border crossings, energy resources, and civilian institutions will be handed over to state control.
