Trump posts Macron’s messages criticizing Greenland plans
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump shares screenshots on Tuesday of messages from French President Emmanuel Macron questioning his plans to acquire Greenland and inviting him to dinner in Paris on Thursday, according to reports.
In the messages, Macron writes, "My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland," as shown in screenshots posted on Trump’s Truth Social account with the caption: "Note from President Emmanuel Macron, of France:".
Macron also suggests, "Let us try to build great things," and proposes a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday afternoon, adding, "I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danish, the Syrians and the Russians in the margins."
Earlier, Trump dismisses Macron’s reported remarks about not joining the international Board of Peace for Gaza, while threatening high tariffs. "Did he say that?" Trump asks, adding, "Well, nobody wants him because he's going to be out of office very soon." He continues, "I'll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he'll join, but he doesn't have to join."
According to French broadcaster, citing sources close to Macron, the French president has no plans to accept Trump’s invitation to join the board, citing concerns that the US-led initiative extends beyond Gaza and could undermine UN principles and structure.
