Syria launches urgent plan to reopen schools in northeast

(MENAFN) Syrian Education Minister Mohammad Abdulrahman Turko announces on Tuesday “urgent steps” to resume schooling in Raqqa, Hasakah, and Deir ez-Zor provinces following a ceasefire deal with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Speaking to the national news agency, Turko says his ministry has established a central committee to evaluate school buildings, ensure safety, determine staffing requirements, provide textbooks and learning materials, and set priorities for renovation and equipment.

“The government is determined to resume schooling in these provinces quickly and ensure its stability,” he adds.

The minister explains that this initiative is part of a wider Education Ministry program aimed at restoring schools damaged in areas recently retaken from the SDF.

The announcement follows a ceasefire and full integration agreement with the SDF, declared by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on Sunday evening.
