Putin Invited to Trump's "Board of Peace" for Gaza, Kremlin Says
(MENAFN) Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin received an invitation to participate in the newly established "Board of Peace," an international initiative focused on resolving conflicts starting with Gaza.
During a Moscow press briefing, Peskov revealed Russia is evaluating the offer.
"Yes, indeed, President Putin also received, through diplomatic channels, an invitation to join this very Council of Peace. At the moment, we are examining all the details of this proposal, including hoping for contacts with the American side to clarify all the nuances," he stated.
The White House unveiled the Board of Peace Friday, characterizing it as essential for executing US President Donald Trump's 20-point framework to permanently halt Israel's military campaign in Gaza and reconstruct the territory. The statement emphasized the board would provide "play an essential role in fulfilling" the plan while "providing strategic oversight, mobilizing international resources, and ensuring accountability as Gaza transitions from conflict to peace and development."
Washington simultaneously created the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to execute phase two of Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, alongside founding and executive boards supporting the NCAG.
Trump has extended invitations to additional global leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Regarding Venezuela, Peskov indicated no immediate conversation was scheduled between Putin and acting President Delcy Rodriguez, though arrangements remain possible.
"For now, President Putin has no such plans for the near future, but if necessary, it can undoubtedly be arranged. However, through diplomatic channels, we are in constant contact with madam, the interim president," he explained.
Following a January 3 US military operation in Caracas that resulted in President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores being detained and transported to New York on narco-terrorism charges, Venezuela's Supreme Court appointed Vice President Rodriguez as acting president.
Addressing Trump's characterization of Russia as a Greenland "threat," Peskov said the Kremlin is monitoring developments closely.
"Here, perhaps, we can even body_abstract from whether this is good or bad, whether these parameters comply with international law or not, but there are international experts who believe that by resolving the issue of Greenland's incorporation, Trump will undoubtedly go down in history, not only in the history of the US, but also in world history. Once again, without discussing whether this is good or bad, it is difficult to disagree with these experts," he remarked.
The US president has publicly advocated acquiring Greenland for national security reasons and to counter rivals like China and Russia. Denmark, which governs Greenland, has consistently rejected any sale of the autonomous region.
European partners have rallied behind Denmark, presenting unified opposition to the threats—including US tariffs targeting countries resisting the acquisition.
