Israeli Military Conducts New Operation in Quneitra
(MENAFN) Israeli troops executed another incursion into Syria’s southern rural district of Quneitra on Wednesday, Syrian outlets reported, marking yet another breach of the nation’s sovereignty.
According to a news agency, an Israeli unit consisting of two vehicles crossed into the area via the southern town of Bir Ajam and proceeded toward the village of Bariqa.
The contingent allegedly paused near the Bir al-Kabbas zone for nearly ten minutes before retreating along the same path.
This latest operation unfolded despite an accord reached earlier this month between Syria and Israel to create a US-overseen communication framework designed to ease military tensions and improve coordination, as stated in a trilateral declaration following negotiations in Paris.
Israeli forces have been conducting almost daily penetrations into Syrian land, especially in Quneitra’s countryside, where they have detained civilians, erected checkpoints, interrogated travelers, and damaged agricultural fields.
Following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad government in late 2024, Israel broadened its control over the Syrian Golan Heights by taking over the demilitarized buffer zone, an action that contravened a 1974 accord with Syria.
