Thirteen people get killed from landslide in DRC

(MENAFN) A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall killed at least 13 people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo early Tuesday, local media reported. The disaster struck Burutsi village in the Banaulengo locality of Walikale territory, North Kivu province, around 1 a.m. local time.

Among the confirmed victims are four children, while local officials warned that dozens more may still be trapped under debris. Residents from Burutsi and nearby communities have joined rescue efforts, searching for those unaccounted for.

North Kivu has experienced deadly landslides and flooding in previous years, particularly during the rainy season, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
