Venezuela Set to Dispatch Envoy to U.S.
(MENAFN) Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodriguez intends to dispatch a diplomatic representative to Washington this week amid signals that the Trump administration may restore its embassy presence in the oil-abundant South American country, media reported Tuesday.
Felix Plasencia, Venezuela's ambassador to Britain and a former foreign minister, will travel to the U.S. capital for discussions with senior American officials at Rodriguez's direction, the outlet disclosed, citing sources with direct knowledge of the diplomatic initiative.
Meanwhile, Maria Corina Machado, a prominent Venezuelan opposition leader, is anticipated to make her own White House visit.
A U.S. State Department spokesperson confirmed Friday that staff from the department's Colombia-based Venezuela Affairs Unit will "conduct an initial assessment for a potential phased resumption of operations" in Venezuela, where Washington shuttered its embassy in 2019 and evacuated all diplomatic personnel.
Friday morning saw President Donald Trump commend the Venezuelan acting president's collaborative stance, declaring that a second U.S. strike against Venezuela "will not be needed."
