Iran Faces Prolonged Internet Blackout
(MENAFN) Iran has remained disconnected from the internet for over 100 hours, according to the London-based monitoring organization NetBlocks, which reported the situation on Monday.
The watchdog stated that nationwide connectivity continues at roughly 1% of typical levels, citing a post shared on the US-based social media platform X.
The country has been shaken by widespread demonstrations since late December, beginning on Dec. 28 at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar in response to the steep decline of the rial and deteriorating economic conditions, before expanding to multiple other cities.
The US-based human rights group HRANA reported that 490 demonstrators and 48 security forces have lost their lives, while more than 10,600 individuals have been detained. However, no official casualty statistics have been issued.
