Piaggio Aerospace Prepares Boosting Output Under Baykar Ownership

(MENAFN) Italy’s aviation manufacturer Piaggio Aerospace, currently undergoing restructuring after being acquired by Turkish drone producer Baykar, plans to expand its aircraft production capacity by five to six times through fresh investments, while also strengthening its maintenance, repair, and engine services, the company’s chairman announced late Monday.

Haluk Bayraktar, chairman of Piaggio Aerospace and General Manager of Baykar, emphasized in a press release that the firm, with its 140-year legacy, has contributed significantly to Italy’s aviation sector, noting: "This is a very important legacy for Baykar."

He added: "Combining our technologies with Piaggio offered a unique advantage and potential to bring together the strengths of Türkiye and Italy."

Bayraktar explained that Piaggio operates two facilities—one dedicated to producing its P180 light transport aircraft and another focused on engine component manufacturing and maintenance.

He highlighted: "With all the capabilities and expertise, it has a very unique aircraft. It's the world's fastest turboprop aircraft and has a unique design."

Bayraktar underlined that merging Piaggio’s infrastructure, expertise, and brand reputation with Baykar’s innovations in UAV technology creates strong prospects for the future.

He noted that the P180 is a distinctive aircraft, though production has been limited in recent years. Baykar intends to revitalize operations and significantly increase output.

Currently, Piaggio manufactures about four to five aircraft annually, but Bayraktar confirmed that this number will rise starting next year.
