Trump Declares Himself “Acting President of Venezuela”

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump on Sunday shared an image of himself as the “Acting President of Venezuela,” just days after a US military mission resulted in the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump presented himself as the acting head of the South American nation beginning January 2026.

The United States launched a military operation in Venezuela on Jan. 3, seizing Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores to face trial in a New York court on charges related to drugs and weapons.

Trump announced that his administration would "run" Venezuela and oversee its oil resources during a transitional phase.

In the aftermath of Maduro’s arrest, Vice President Delcy Rodrigues was sworn in as interim president.

The new Venezuelan administration has continued to interact with Washington, with a US delegation of diplomatic and security officials traveling to Caracas to explore the reopening of the US Embassy.
