Trump eyes Marco Rubio as potential future leader of Cuba
(MENAFN) President Donald Trump suggested that Secretary of State Marco Rubio could one day lead Cuba, after reposting an online image that jokingly proposed the idea. Trump replied, “Sounds good to me!” on his social media platform.
In subsequent remarks, he accused Havana of relying on Venezuelan oil revenues. His comments followed the dramatic capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by U.S. special forces last week, an operation that reportedly killed several Cubans serving in Maduro’s security detail.
After the raid, Trump demanded “total access” to Venezuela’s oil resources.
Trump later wrote that “most of those Cubans are DEAD” and declared that the U.S. would now “protect” Venezuela, urging Cuba to “make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
Hours afterward, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel condemned Washington’s posture, accusing the U.S. of decades of aggression. He stated, “Those who turn everything into a business, even human lives, have no moral authority to point fingers at Cuba on anything, absolutely anything.”
