Trump Reiterates Intention to Obtain Greenland
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday once more insisted that America will secure Denmark’s Greenland “one way or the other.”
While speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump explained that regarding Greenland, he was not contemplating leasing or temporary arrangements, but rather “acquiring” the territory outright.
“We’re talking about acquiring, not leasing, not having it short term, we’re talking about acquiring,” Trump emphasized, adding that it is inadequate for the nation to simply sustain military installations on the island.
“I’d love to make a deal with them. It’s easier, but one way or the other, we’re going to have Greenland,” Trump declared.
When asked if Washington’s pursuit of Greenland might harm NATO and European partners, Trump responded, “If it affects NATO and it affects NATO, but you know, they need us much more than we need them.”
“I’m the one that saved NATO,” Trump asserted, once again casting doubt on whether NATO allies would stand by the United States when required.
“I just wonder whether or not, if we needed NATO, would they be there for us? I’m not sure they would,” the president remarked.
Trump also reiterated his unfounded accusations that Russian and Chinese naval vessels and submarines were “all over the place” near Greenland, using these unverified claims to argue that the United States must possess Greenland for national defense purposes.
“If we don’t do it, Russia or China will,” Trump stated, without presenting any proof.
