Israeli forces bomb southern Lebanon in latest ceasefire breach
(MENAFN) Israeli forces carried out extensive airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday, killing one person in what Lebanese media described as a breach of the ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024.
According to a state news agency, an Israeli drone fired a guided missile at a car in the city of Bint Jbeil, killing one individual. The Israeli army confirmed the strike, saying it targeted a Hezbollah operative.
Fighter jets also launched heavy raids on the Mahmoudiyeh and Damshqiyah areas, while more than 10 strikes hit al Breij near Jbaa in the Iqlim al Tuffah region within an hour.
Additional attacks were reported in the Rayhan Heights of Jezzine district, the Tabna area—where one missile reportedly failed to detonate—and between Bsaliya and Sniya, also in Jezzine.
The Israeli military claimed the operations targeted underground shafts used to store weapons at Hezbollah sites. It also ordered residents of a residential complex in Kfar Hatta, Sidon district, to evacuate before striking what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure there.
Hezbollah has not issued a statement in response.
Israeli media recently reported that the army has finalized preparations for a possible large scale offensive against Hezbollah positions should Lebanon’s government and military fail to dismantle the group’s arsenal.
