Syrian Army Heightens Alert After YPG/SDF Movements in Aleppo
(MENAFN) The Syrian Army announced on Sunday that it has elevated its state of readiness after observing activity by the militant group YPG/SDF in the eastern rural areas of Aleppo.
According to a statement released through a news agency, the Army’s Operations Command reported that surveillance drones tracked the arrival of armed factions along with medium and heavy weapons belonging to the SDF at the Deir Hafer front, located east of Aleppo.
The statement noted that the purpose and goals of these reinforcements remain uncertain, while confirming that Syrian forces have been placed on high alert and strengthened their deployment lines in the region.
“We are prepared for all scenarios,” the command declared, without offering additional specifics.
This development coincided with the evacuation of the remaining SDF fighters from Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud district.
The Army had previously confirmed that all combat operations in the neighborhood were suspended as of 3 p.m. local time (1200 GMT) on Saturday.
Since Tuesday, the SDF has launched artillery attacks on residential areas, public facilities, and Syrian Army positions in Aleppo, resulting in 24 deaths, nearly 130 injuries, and the displacement of approximately 165,000 civilians from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud quarters, according to official statistics.
In March 2025, the Syrian presidency announced the signing of an accord for the SDF’s incorporation into national institutions, reaffirming Syria’s territorial integrity and rejecting any attempts at fragmentation.
