US, Coalition Forces Launch Strikes on ISIS Targets in Syria

(MENAFN) US Central Command (CENTCOM), alongside allied forces, announced Saturday that it had conducted extensive strikes against multiple ISIS (Daesh) positions in Syria.

The operations, carried out around 5:30 p.m. GMT, were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, initiated on Dec. 19 under President Trump’s directive. The campaign was launched in retaliation for a Dec. 13 assault by the terror group in Palmyra that killed two US soldiers and an American civilian interpreter.

Saturday’s strikes were described as part of Washington’s broader mission to "root out Islamic terrorism," safeguard American personnel, prevent future assaults, and protect both US and partner forces in the region, according to CENTCOM.

"U.S. and coalition forces remain resolute in pursuing terrorists who seek to harm the United States.

Our message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice," the command stated.
