Norwegian Nobel Institute Rejects Transfer of Peace Prize
(MENAFN) The Norwegian Nobel Institute clarified on Friday that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be reassigned, following comments made by Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado, who suggested she might give her 2025 award to US President Donald Trump.
“The facts are clear and well established. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time,” the Institute stated.
Machado received the prize in recognition of her work defending democratic freedoms and encouraging a peaceful shift from authoritarian governance to democracy in Venezuela.
During an interview with a news agency on Monday, Machado remarked that presenting the award to Trump would symbolize Venezuelans’ appreciation for the US-led raid in their country.
The United States conducted a military operation on January 3, resulting in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse, Cilia Flores.
Trump, when asked about Machado’s suggestion, replied: “I've heard that she wants to do that. That to be a great honor.”
