Norwegian Nobel Institute says Peace Prize is not transferrable

(MENAFN) The Norwegian Nobel Institute has clarified that once the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to another individual under any circumstances, reaffirming the finality of the award decision. This response was issued following remarks by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who had suggested she might offer her 2025 Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump as a gesture of gratitude for actions linked to the capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro.

Machado’s suggestion — made during a television interview — prompted the official statement underscoring that Nobel Prize decisions are permanent and governed by the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, which do not allow appeals, sharing, or transfers once the prize is conferred.

Trump, who has expressed interest in the Nobel Peace Prize in the past, responded positively when asked whether he would accept such a transfer, though the Institute’s statement clearly rules out that possibility.
