Russia Deploys Oreshnik Missiles in Retaliatory Strike on Ukraine
(MENAFN) Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that its advanced Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile system was employed in the latest assault against drone manufacturing sites, energy facilities, and other military-linked infrastructure inside Ukraine.
The overnight offensive was described as a response to an attempted “terrorist attack by the Kiev regime” on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod Region.
According to the ministry, Ukraine had launched 91 long-range UAVs at the presidential compound on December 28–29, all of which were intercepted by Russian air defenses. Moscow had vowed retaliation.
Officials stated that Russia also utilized other long-range, land- and sea-based precision weapons, along with drones, during the strike. The targets included drone assembly plants and energy systems supporting Ukraine’s defense industry.
“The objectives of the strike have been achieved,” the ministry declared, adding that “None of the terrorist actions by the criminal Ukrainian regime will go unanswered.”
On Thursday night, an unverified video circulated on social media allegedly showing an Oreshnik hypersonic missile strike in western Ukraine.
CCTV footage from the Lviv Region, bordering Poland, appeared to capture multiple projectiles descending rapidly from the sky, a pattern consistent with the system’s capabilities.
