Trump Announces Cancellation of Venezuela’s "Second Wave of Attacks"

(MENAFN) United States President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of planned military operations against Venezuela, citing newfound cooperation between Washington and Caracas that includes efforts to reconstruct the nation's energy sector.

American special forces stormed Venezuela's capital last Saturday, capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse Cilia Flores in a commando-style operation.

Following the raid, Trump issued demands for "total access" to Venezuelan oil reserves and declared Washington's intention to "run" the country pending what he described as a "proper transition" of governmental authority. Russia and numerous BRICS nations alongside Global South countries have issued sharp rebukes of American intervention.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump declared "I have canceled the previously expected second Wave of Attacks, which looks like it will not be needed, however, all ships will stay in place for safety and security."

The president revealed that major petroleum corporations—referred to as "Big Oil"—plan to pour at least $100 billion into Venezuelan infrastructure, adding that White House meetings with oil industry executives were scheduled for Friday.

Trump praised Caracas for freeing "large numbers of political prisoners," calling it "a very important and smart gesture."

Venezuela's government initiated the release of prominent detainees Tuesday evening, characterizing the move as an effort "to seek peace."

Initial releases included Enrique Marquez, who previously ran for president, and Biagio Pilieri, a former legislator and business figure, both held at the El Helicoide detention complex in Caracas. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares subsequently verified that five Spanish nationals were freed and had departed for their homeland.
