Venezuelan Interior Ministry says US attack left hundred people dead
(MENAFN) The Venezuelan Interior Ministry announced Wednesday that a United States-led assault resulted in the deaths of 100 people.
Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello stated that President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, sustained injuries during the attack, according to reports. Cabello paid tribute to the couple as well as those who lost their lives in the operation.
“Venezuela will not surrender because it is a nation with history and a legacy,” he said on state television. He further declared, “The whole world now knows that Nicolás Maduro is a prisoner of war and the United States violated all the norms of international coexistence.”
According to accounts, American forces carried out airstrikes in northern Venezuela while special units stormed Caracas in an effort to capture Maduro and Flores and transport them to the US.
Both appeared in a New York courtroom facing charges related to drugs and weapons. During the initial hearing, Maduro and Flores entered pleas of not guilty.
