Seven US Troops Suffer from Injury in Venezuela Operation
(MENAFN) According to media reports on Tuesday, seven American service members sustained injuries during the United States’ weekend mission in Venezuela aimed at capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse, Cilia Flores.
Of those wounded, five have already resumed duty, while two remain in recovery, a news agency reported, citing an administration source.
“They are receiving excellent medical care and are well on their way to recovery,” the official stated. “The fact that this extremely complex and grueling mission was successfully executed with so few injuries is a testament to the expertise of our joint warriors.”
The operation involved extensive airstrikes early Saturday against northern Venezuelan targets, including air defense systems and communication networks. Simultaneously, special operations units carried out a raid in Caracas to detain Maduro and Flores.
During their initial court appearance on charges related to narcotics and weapons, both Maduro and Flores entered pleas of not guilty.
The Trump administration has characterized the mission as part of a renewed application of the Monroe Doctrine, presenting it as a campaign against alleged drug trafficking and corruption, while also linking it to securing US leverage over Venezuela’s significant oil reserves.
