Poland expresses readiness to give logistical backing for Ukraine

(MENAFN) Poland announced on Tuesday that it is prepared to take on a central role in coordinating logistical support for Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement with Russia.

According to statements following a Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris, Prime Minister Donald Tusk explained that the developing framework for Ukraine’s security and reconstruction would assign specific responsibilities to individual countries. He emphasized that Poland’s involvement in the peace process “must be key and fundamental.”

Tusk also said that participants from the United States highlighted Poland as an example of successful recovery after communism, suggesting that Ukraine could “follow the Polish path” if a lasting agreement is achieved.

Reports from the Paris discussions indicated that Washington and European partners agreed to set up a ceasefire monitoring system for Ukraine under US leadership. This mechanism would form part of broader security assurances intended to support a durable peace.

The gathering included leaders and senior representatives from 35 countries, alongside NATO, the European Union, and Ukraine.

Tusk noted that talks centered on practical arrangements, particularly the distribution of responsibilities and the design of security guarantees. He confirmed that Poland is willing to assume significant duties, especially in managing logistics, while making clear that Polish military forces are not expected to be stationed inside Ukraine.

He cautioned that progress toward peace depends on maintaining pressure on Russia and on the aggressor’s readiness to engage in negotiations. Reflecting this cautious outlook, he said it was premature to speak of major breakthroughs.

The Polish prime minister also said he intends to meet later this week with President Karol Nawrocki to define how responsibilities will be divided between the government and the presidency as diplomatic efforts continue.
