Israel carries out airstrikes in Lebanon injuring two despite ceasefire
(MENAFN) Two people were injured on Monday after Israeli forces carried out multiple airstrikes across Lebanon, marking another violation of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since November 2024, according to official statements.
The Health Ministry said a drone attack struck a vehicle in the town of Briqueh, located in the Nabatieh district, leaving two individuals wounded. Reports indicated that the drone launched a guided missile at a van traveling along a main road in the town.
Additional Israeli air raids targeted several locations, including the southern towns of Kfarhata and Anan, as well as Ain al-Tineh and Manara in eastern Lebanon, according to reports.
The strikes followed evacuation warnings issued by the Israeli army for residents of the affected areas, with the military claiming the presence of Hezbollah and Hamas-related infrastructure.
According to reports, an airstrike on Manara completely destroyed a house and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings and vehicles, while artillery fire hit the Wadi Alma al-Shaab area near the border. Israeli warplanes were also seen flying at medium altitude over parts of southern Lebanon’s eastern sector, including Marjayoun, Khiam, and surrounding towns.
Reports further said that an Israeli drone dropped explosives on a poultry farm near a residential home in the town of Khiam, demolishing the facility but causing no casualties.
Monday’s attacks were described as the latest in a series of Israeli breaches of the ceasefire that brought an end to more than a year of cross-border hostilities linked to the war in Gaza. That period of fighting resulted in more than 4,000 deaths and left around 17,000 people injured.
Separately, reports said the Israeli military has finalized preparations for a potential large-scale offensive against Hezbollah positions if Lebanese authorities and the national army do not succeed in dismantling the group’s weapons.
Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces were expected to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon in January. However, the pullback has reportedly been only partial, with Israeli troops still stationed at five military outposts along the border.
