Trump Presents Post-Intervention Plan for Venezuela

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump has presented his vision for Venezuela following the recent US military intervention, emphasizing that the nation must first be restored to “law and order” and economic stability before any elections can be contemplated.

In a Sunday interview with a media outlet, Trump dismissed concerns that the unprecedented operation, which led to the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, might entangle Washington in a prolonged conflict similar to Iraq or Afghanistan.

He portrayed the intervention as an effort to rescue “literally a third world country ready to fail” after decades of socialist governance.

“We should run the country properly,” Trump declared. “We should run the country with law and order. We should run the country where we can take advantage of the economics of what they have – which is valuable oil and valuable other things.”

On the same day, Venezuela’s Supreme Court officially directed Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to assume the presidency, ensuring the “continuity of the State” and the “defense of sovereignty.”

Rodriguez later confirmed that she had spoken with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing the exchange as a matter of national dignity. She stressed that Caracas is prepared for “respectful relations” with Washington, while firmly asserting that Venezuela “will never return to being the colony of another empire” and “never return to being slaves.”
