Fidan says he held phone call with UAE, Saudi counterparts
(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone conversations on Friday with his Saudi and Emirati counterparts to review the latest developments in Yemen, according to officials familiar with the matter.
Fidan spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. No additional details regarding the content of the discussions were disclosed.
Yemen has experienced a sharp escalation in recent weeks following the takeover of the Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra provinces by forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in early December. These two provinces together make up nearly half of Yemen’s land area and border Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia accused the United Arab Emirates of “pushing STC forces to carry out military operations” along its southern frontier in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra, an allegation that Abu Dhabi has denied.
The STC argues that successive Yemeni administrations have politically and economically sidelined the southern regions and continues to advocate for secession. Yemeni authorities have rejected these claims, reiterating their position in favor of preserving the country’s unity.
