Russian Airstrike on Kyiv Causes Power Outages

(MENAFN) Ukraine announced on Monday that at least two individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries following a nighttime Russian aerial assault on the capital, Kyiv.

According to a statement on Telegram from the Ukrainian State Emergency Service, a four-story medical building in the Obolonskyi district was hit, igniting a blaze that was later extinguished.

“During the inspection of the premises, a human body was discovered. Twenty-five people were evacuated, three people were injured,” the statement noted.

Regional governor Mykola Kalashnik confirmed that energy facilities were also targeted, leaving the city of Slavutych temporarily without electricity.

“Almost 8,500 families are without electricity. Energy workers are already working on restoration,” he explained.

Kalashnik had earlier reported that one person was killed in the Fastiv district as a result of the attack.

Prior to the strike, the Kyiv City Military Administration warned of incoming drones and urged residents to remain in shelters.

“It is crucial that our partners never forget: air defense is needed every day; funding for the production of interceptor drones is needed every day; equipment for the energy sector is needed every day,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized on US social media platform X.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine will coordinate with European and American allies throughout the week to “ensure that Ukraine has the assistance it needs.”
