Kazakhstan’s leader prohibits LGBT, pedophilia propaganda in media
(MENAFN) Kazakhstan’s president on Tuesday signed a law prohibiting the promotion of LGBT content and pedophilia in the media, telecommunications, and online platforms.
According to an official statement from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s website, the new measures are part of broader legal restrictions on the distribution of illegal content, though the statement did not clarify when the law will take effect.
The bill had previously been approved by both chambers of Kazakhstan’s parliament. Under the legislation, violations could result in a fine of 144,500 Kazakh tenge (approximately $280) and administrative detention for up to 10 days.
The law follows a petition submitted by citizens about a year and a half ago, calling for a nationwide ban on LGBT propaganda.
