Syria’s Army Apprehends Eight Baath Regime Loyalists

(MENAFN) Syria's military forces have apprehended eight individuals with ties to the ousted Baath regime as they sought to escape into territory controlled by the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, which uses the SDF designation within Syrian borders.

The captures occurred during a security sweep conducted in the vicinity of Deir Hafir within Aleppo governorate, the Syrian Defense Ministry's Media and Communications Directorate confirmed through a state broadcaster news agency on Sunday.

Following the December 2024 toppling of the Bashar al-Assad regime, Syria's emerging government has initiated sweeping economic and political overhauls designed to stabilize and rehabilitate the nation.

Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly a quarter-century, escaped to Russia immediately following his removal from power, bringing an end to the Baath Party's six-decade grip on the country that began in 1963.

A transitional government under President Ahmed al-Sharaa assumed control in January 2025.
