(MENAFN) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is scheduled to appear in federal court in New York at 12 noon (1700 GMT) on Monday following his capture during a US military operation over the weekend, local media reported Sunday.
His wife, Cilia Flores, is also set to appear, according to a spokesperson for the Southern District of New York.
The couple landed in New York late Saturday and are being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. They face US federal charges related to drug trafficking and alleged collaboration with gangs designated as terrorist organizations.
Maduro has denied the allegations, while officials in Caracas have called for their immediate release.
