Italy Monitors Venezuela After US Strikes
(MENAFN) Italy’s foreign minister stated on Saturday that he is observing the situation in Venezuela following US military actions, with particular concern for the Italian population residing there.
"I'm following the situation with our diplomatic representation in Caracas, with particular attention to the Italian community. The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is constantly informed," Antonio Tajani wrote on the US social media platform X.
"The Foreign Ministry's crisis unit is operational," he added.
Approximately 160,000 Italian citizens currently live in Venezuela.
Earlier, Venezuela’s authorities accused the United States of targeting both civilian and military sites across several regions, declaring a national emergency in response.
Trump confirmed carrying out a "large scale" strike on his social media platform Truth Social, claiming Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and flown out of the country.
These attacks followed months of heightened tensions between Washington and Caracas, with the US alleging Maduro’s involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro rejected the accusations, denied being a cartel leader, and had previously expressed willingness to engage in dialogue.
