'Jana Nayagan' Trailer Racks Up 29M+ Views Within Day Of Release, Tops UAE Charts

Tamil trailer of Thalapathy Vijay's last movie, Jana Nayagan, has definitely grabbed its fair share of attention around the world. In the 19 hours since its release on YouTube, the film showcase has been viewed 29.4 million times, catapulting it to the top of the UAE trending charts as well.

Director by H Vinoth, the trailer stars Vijay as a police officer showcasing him in an action avatar. Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain and Gautam Vasudev Menon, round off Jana Nayagan's cast.

The trailer, running just under three minutes, shows Vijay portraying a fearless police officer, who fights criminals and has the support of public. Simultaneously, he's keen on training his daughter to join the nation's armed forces.

Vijay is back donning the khaki, nine years after Theri (2016), his first collaboration with director Atlee. The parallels with Theri continue with him doting over his daughter.

When his daughter asks if he's Superman because beat up a large number of evil people, Vijay replies that he's just an ordinary man, but people think his deeds are "super".

The undercurrent to politics is a constant throughout the movie's trailer, which released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. And that is no surprise. At the movie's audio launch in Malaysia last month, he said:“I have decided to give up cinema for the fans who gave up everything for me", referring to his entry in to politics.

The statement was met with a vociferous response by the 70,000-strong crowd at the National Stadium Bukit Jalal in Kuala Lumpur, said to be a record for the South-Eastern Asian nation.

Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is contesting the upcoming Assembly elections in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the actor-politician's attacks on the governing party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, over corruption and lapses in administration had drawn a lot of attention.

Vinoth had made a name for himself directing gritty thrillers such as Sathuranga Vettai, Theeran Adhigaaram Onru and Nerkonda Paarvai, the Tamil remake of the Bollywood movie Pink; and Valimai and Thunivu. Anirudh Ravichander is Jana Nayagan's music composer, marking his fifth collaboration with Vijay since Kaththi (2014), Master (2021), Beast (2022) and Leo (2023).

Bobby Deol plays the antagonist in Jana Nayagan, who wants to bring "India to its knees in 30 days", and Vijay has to go against evil politicians and goons to figure out his modus operandi and save the day.

The trailer also features violence in oodles. Bullets and punches fly; as do drones and, in one frame, robots, hinting at a futuristic, sci-fi touch to the proceedings.
