India’s Kerala Enforces Strict Measures After Bird Flu Outbreak
(MENAFN) Authorities in India have implemented tough actions in Kerala after the detection of bird flu (avian influenza H5N1), officials announced Tuesday.
The outbreak has been concentrated in Alappuzha district, situated roughly 154 kilometers north of Thiruvananthapuram, the state’s capital.
The animal husbandry department directed the culling of poultry within a one-kilometer radius of the outbreak’s center.
Over the past two days, approximately 28,000 birds have been destroyed as part of containment efforts.
Bird flu is a highly contagious and serious respiratory illness in birds, caused by the H5N1 virus, which on rare occasions can also infect humans.
