Journalist Condemns Athens, Nicosia for Aligning with Netanyahu’s Agenda

(MENAFN) A prominent Greek journalist has sharply criticized both Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration, accusing them of advancing the interests of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after a trilateral summit earlier this week.

On Monday, Netanyahu met in West Jerusalem with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, with “defense cooperation” reportedly topping the agenda.

Speaking to a news agency, journalist John Kountouris argued that the gathering showed Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration were aligning themselves with Netanyahu’s political objectives.

He remarked: “Unfortunately, both Greece and (Greek) Cyprus are serving this dictator and his interests in line with the so-called ‘Greater Israel’ project.”

Kountouris contended that Mitsotakis’ trip to Israel was built on “false and misleading assumptions.” While energy collaboration was presented as the official rationale, he claimed the true purpose was tied to Israel’s broader “imperialist agenda” in both the Middle East and Europe.

He further stated that rather than denouncing Israel for what he described as policies aimed at destroying Palestinians and actions amounting to genocide, Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration were effectively rewarding Israel through such agreements.
