UK Records Its Highest-Ever Defense Export Value in 2025

(MENAFN) Britain has achieved an unprecedented milestone in military sales, with newly released government data revealing defense export contracts exceeding £20 billion (approximately $27 billion) throughout 2025—the highest annual figure since tracking commenced over four decades ago.

Friday's official announcement from the UK government highlighted how these arrangements reflect accelerating momentum toward strategic defense review objectives: positioning defense as a catalyst for economic expansion while solidifying military partnerships with NATO members during a period of escalating worldwide instability.

Central to this record-breaking performance stands what officials characterized as Britain's most substantial naval vessel export transaction to date: a £10 billion ($13.5 billion) agreement with Norway covering procurement of at least five Type 26 frigates.

The naval contract is projected to sustain approximately 4,000 employment positions nationwide and engage over 430 enterprises, predominantly small and medium-sized contractors.

Authorities also finalized what they termed the most significant fighter aircraft export commitment "in a generation," agreeing to deliver 20 Typhoon jets to Türkiye through an £8 billion ($10.7 billion) arrangement.

Government ministers assert the aviation deal will preserve roughly 20,000 jobs, with concentrated benefits in Lancashire and Scotland, while reinforcing NATO's southern defensive perimeter.

"We are showing again how this government is delivering on our pledge to make defense an engine for economic growth across the country while boosting our security and that of our allies," Minister of State for Defense Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard stated.

"By winning the historic deal to build Type 26 frigates for Norway, we are driving growth in Scotland and across the UK while better equipping our combined navies to counter the threat from Russia in the North Atlantic. And by exporting Typhoon fighter jets to Türkiye, we are securing high-skilled jobs in Lancashire, Scotland and across the UK whilst helping strengthen NATO's southern flank," he explained.

"We are committed to working with our allies and defense industries to make sure the UK is a leader in global defense exports, and there's more to come in 2026," he added.

Supplementary transactions encompass the transfer of 12 C-130 aircraft to Türkiye, generating over £550 million ($742 million) for UK defense contractors including Marshall Aerospace Group, alongside the export of 18 military transport vehicles manufactured by Devon-based Supacat to Czech armed forces, according to government disclosures.

This export surge accompanies expanded defense collaboration frameworks, including a fresh accord with Norway for coordinated North Atlantic operations, enhanced AUKUS cooperation with Australia, and Britain's recent entry into the Agreement on Defense Export Controls alongside France, Germany, and Spain.

UK defense export records extend to 1983, establishing 2025 as the most profitable year in documented history.
