Trump Declares He Will Not Recognize Somaliland

WASHINGTON, Dec 27 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump has announced that he will not recognize the separatist Somaliland shortly after the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared Tel Aviv's official recognition of the entity as "an independent state."
Trump, in Remarks to the New York Post, when asked whether he would follow Netanyahu's suit, raised the question whether "anyone" certainly knows the Somaliland region.
Netanyahu earlier on Friday declared official recognition of Somaliland as an "independent and sovereign state," indicating he planned to expand cooperation with it in diverse sectors.
The Israeli declaration has drawn condemnations from various regional and foreign countries as a violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial sanctity. (end)
