Turkey locates wreckage of Tripoli-bound private jet
(MENAFN) Turkish authorities have confirmed that the wreckage of a Tripoli-bound private jet carrying Libya’s Army Chief of Staff has been found south of Ankara, following the aircraft’s loss of contact shortly after takeoff.
Türkiye’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, reported that the Falcon 50 business jet departed from Ankara’s Esenboga Airport en route to Tripoli and was later located about two kilometers south of Kesikkavak village in the Haymana district by gendarmerie teams.
The jet, bearing tail number 9H-DFJ, lost communication shortly after departure at 8:10 p.m. local time (1710 GMT), with an emergency landing alert transmitted near Haymana, but no further contact could be established, Yerlikaya said.
Türkiye’s Justice Minister, Yilmaz Tunc, confirmed that prosecutors have opened an investigation into the crash. Five passengers were on board, including Libyan Chief of General Staff Gen. Mohamed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad.
Yerlikaya stated that authorities will continue to provide updates as the investigation and recovery efforts proceed.
