Erdogan, Aoun Discuss Security, Economic Cooperation
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun held a phone conversation to review bilateral ties and regional developments, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty, stressing that the two nations “have significant potential in the fields of trade and investment.”
He expressed Ankara’s willingness to participate in international initiatives aimed at strengthening Lebanon’s security. Erdogan also highlighted Türkiye’s firm opposition to “Israel’s aggressive posture toward Lebanon,” the statement noted.
Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024 after more than a year of cross-border clashes linked to the Gaza war. The conflict left over 4,000 people dead and 17,000 injured.
Although the ceasefire required Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January, they have only partially retreated, maintaining a presence at five border outposts.
