Libyan commander sends condolences over army chief death in plane crash
(MENAFN) Eastern Libya’s military leader Khalifa Haftar on Tuesday expressed condolences following the death of Libya’s Army Chief of Staff, Mohammed al-Haddad, and members of his accompanying delegation after a plane crash near Ankara.
According to statements circulated by military authorities in eastern Libya, Haftar conveyed “deep sorrow over this tragic loss” and extended sympathy to the late commander’s relatives, tribe, hometown, and “to all the Libyan people.”
In a separate move, the House of Representatives operating from Benghazi also issued a message of sympathy, addressing the families of Haddad and those who died alongside him, as well as their fellow personnel within the armed forces, according to reports.
Earlier, Libya’s Government of National Unity announced a three-day period of nationwide mourning in response to the deaths.
Officials in Türkiye previously stated that the remains of a Falcon 50 business jet, which had departed from Ankara’s Esenboga Airport bound for Tripoli, were located by gendarmerie units roughly two kilometers south of Kesikkavak village in the Haymana area, according to available information.
