Army chief has been confirmed dead by Libya’s Tripoli-based government
(MENAFN) Libya’s administration based in Tripoli announced on Tuesday evening that its army chief, Mohammed al-Haddad, along with four accompanying aides, was killed in an aircraft accident that occurred near the Turkish capital.
According to an official statement released by the government headed by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the incident was described as “a tragic loss to the nation, the military establishment, and all the people.”
The statement further emphasized the role of those killed, saying, “We have lost men who served their country with sincerity and dedication and were an example of discipline, responsibility, and national commitment.”
Earlier, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the remains of the Falcon 50 aircraft, which had been heading toward Tripoli with Haddad on board, were discovered south of the Haymana district near Ankara, as stated by reports.
