Trump Reasserts Role in Stopping India, Pakistan Conflict
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has once again insisted that he played a decisive role in stopping a nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan during their military standoff earlier this year.
The conflict between New Delhi and Islamabad unfolded from May 7 to 10, following a terrorist strike on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir that left 26 people dead.
Prior to the official ceasefire announcement, Trump declared on Truth Social that a settlement had been achieved after a “long night of talks” facilitated by Washington.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump stated, “We stopped a potential nuclear war between Pakistan and India... [The] prime minister of Pakistan said that President Trump saved 10 million lives, maybe more.” He further added, “Eight planes were shot down. That war was starting to rage.”
Indian officials have consistently dismissed Trump’s assertions, denying that trade was used as leverage in securing the ceasefire and rejecting claims that the confrontation had escalated to a nuclear threshold.
